Public Links
Public links let you share individual items or whole collections with anyone, even if they don't have an Ente account. Recipients can view the content in their web browser.
Use public links when you want browser-based sharing without requiring the recipient to sign in.
If you want to share a collection privately with another Ente user inside the app, use Share with Ente users instead.
How it works
When you create a public link:
- A unique URL is generated containing the decryption key
- Anyone with the link can view the content in their browser
- The key is in the URL fragment and never sent to Ente's servers
- No Ente account is required to view the content
Creating a public link
For an item
- Long press on the item you want to share
- Tap the share button
- Tap Share link
For a collection
- Open the collection you want to share
- Tap the share button
- Tap Share link
Deleting a link
For an item
- Long press on the item
- Tap the share button
- Tap Delete link
- Confirm deletion
For a collection
- Open the collection
- Tap the share button
- Tap Delete link
- Confirm deletion
The link will immediately stop working.
Security considerations
- Anyone with the link can view the content
- Links can be forwarded to others
- Delete links when no longer needed
Viewing public links
Public links open in a web browser. The viewer can:
- View the shared item or collection
- Access it on any device with a browser
No Ente app or account is required.
