Is there a Google Photos alternative with unlimited storage?

November 05, 2026

Yes, a few. If you have Amazon Prime, Amazon Photos includes unlimited full-resolution photo storage plus 5 GB for video (Amazon). It's available in the US, Canada, the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Japan (Amazon). Flickr Pro advertises unlimited storage with full-resolution uploads (Flickr).

Most other services, including Google Photos, iCloud and Ente, sell storage in fixed sizes.

"Unlimited" always comes with conditions, so check them before you switch.

Who offers unlimited storage, and on what conditions

Google Photos used to offer free unlimited storage in "High quality," now called Storage saver. Anything backed up that way before 1 June 2021 still doesn't count against your storage, but everything backed up since then does (Google).

Do you need unlimited storage?

You may need less than you think. Check how big your library is now:

  • Google Photos: look at your storage in Google One.
  • iPhone: check your iCloud storage in Settings.
  • Android: check the size of your camera folder.

Then add a year or two of growth. If you shoot a lot of 4K video, expect it to take up most of your space. Video is usually where "unlimited" plans stop.

How to use less storage

  • Remove exact duplicates. Ente can find and remove duplicate files across your library while keeping your albums intact (Ente: Storage and plans FAQ).
  • Remove near-duplicates. Ente uses on-device machine learning to find visually similar photos, such as a burst of ten shots of the same thing, so you can keep the best one (Ente: Storage and plans FAQ).
  • Count each photo once. In Ente, a photo that's in several albums is only stored and counted once (Ente: Storage and plans FAQ).

One more thing to know: Ente measures storage in binary units, so the same library takes up a little less space than on services that count in base-1000 (Ente: Storage and plans FAQ).

Where Ente fits

Ente is a photos app with fixed-size plans rather than unlimited storage. There's a 10 GB free plan, and paid plans of 50 GB, 200 GB, 1 TB and 2 TB. In the US they cost $2.49, $4.99, $9.99 and $19.99 a month, or $29.88, $59.88, $119.88 and $239.88 a year (Ente pricing) (US prices, checked 3 Nov 2026). You can share a paid plan with up to 5 other people at no extra cost (Ente).

Your photos and their metadata are end-to-end encrypted, so Ente can't see them (Ente). And your storage doesn't depend on another subscription. Amazon's unlimited photos last only as long as your Prime membership (Amazon).

Which should you pick?

  • You have Prime and mostly take photos: Amazon Photos.
  • You're a photographer with huge RAW archives: look at a backup tool that uses cheap object storage.
  • You want privacy and a family plan, and a fixed amount of storage works for you: Ente. Start free with 10 GB.
